Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) 3620 Miramar, La Porte, TX Hazard: Employees were exposed to being struck by falling portions of the hoisted load or load block of the Kranco Jib Crane, S/N 8720, 3 ton underhung crane located at the crane pier. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to train employees on the proper use and limitations of the underhung Jib cranes in their work areas and assure that at the beginning of each work shift, each employee test the hoist limit switch on the underhung Jib crane that they will be utilizing, in accordance with Paragraph 11- 3.2.4(a) of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) B30.11-1973.
