employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to burns or explosion hazards while cleaning up reactive
combustible metal dust
with a vacuum cleaner that was not approved for use.
Strippet Department:
The Shop Vac vacuum cleaner was not specifically approved for use to clean
up
combustible aluminum dust.
A feasible and useful method to correct this hazard is install ventilation
to capture the
dust during the sanding operation.  Non-sparking tools shall be used to
clean up excess
aluminum dust not captured by the local exhaust.
