Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a)amputations while operating the Wysong Shear, Model 1010-RD, Serial No. P32-475, in that the treadle mechanism was not guarded. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS, to protect/guard the treadle mechanism to prevent unintended operation from falling or moving objects or by accidental stepping onto the treadle. (b)amputations while operating the Niagara Shear, Serial No. 56583, in that the treadle mechanism was not guarded. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS, to protect/guard the treadle mechanism to prevent unintended operation from falling or moving objects or by accidental stepping onto the treadle.
