Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: aggravated medical conditions as a result of delayed medical treatment. Detroit Bulk Mail Center(7/28/99) After exposure to vapors from a 15 sodium hypochlorite spill, a postal clerk developed symptoms described as feeling dizzy and having hot flashes. She left her work area and went to the union office where the symptoms became worse and included a loss of vision. The employees supervisor was notifed and the clerk was ask to explain the incident. Medical treatment was delayed 1 hour and 45 minutes for the compleation of a written statment and other forms.
