5(a)(1): %% a) BOF, #70 Furnace - Employee(s) disconnecting and adjusting the argon from the bottom of a transfer car are exposed to pinch point hazards created by a stationary bumper assembly and a stop plate mounted onto the side of the transfer car, on July 25, 1995. One feasible method of abatement, among others is to ensure that the operator of the car is in constant communication, either verbally or visually, with the person disconnecting the argon. This may be accomplished by moving the control switches to ensure 100 visibility of the hazard area. If visibility is not ensured 100, then supplementary measures, such as the use of a voice intercom system, or a visual system, such as closed circuit television or strategically placed mirrors can be employed. OR IN THE ALTERNATIVE 29 CFR 1910.147(d)(2): a) BOF, #70 Furnace - Employee(s) disconnecting and adjusting argon from the bottom of a transfer car did not wait for the transfer car to stop prior to attempting to disconnect the argon, on July 25, 1995.
