Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to multiple injuries from falling hazard when employee are elevated on platforms when used with a powered industrial truck and the platform is not provided with standard railing on all sides: a) Maintenance Department - Employees performed work including scraping, painting and changing light bulbs from a work platform attached to a forklift truck. The platform was not provided with a standard railing system on all four (4) sides. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to obtain and use a machine which is specifically designed to elevate personnel to perform work.
