General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: In that employees were exposed to the operation on forklifts witjout usung the seat belts supplied by the manuafcturer. ASME/ANSI B56.1-1993, Safety Standard for Low Lift and high Lift Trucks, requires manufacturers to provide, and operators to wear seat belts (operator restraint systems). Tow Motor Operators working in the Sterling Underbody Assembly part of the plant were driving forklifts (i.e. Yale #46, serial #E177B16633U) without using the seat belts provided by the manufacturer. Additional abatement information is required for this item.
