Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to:
(a)  Location:  Jobsite Cafeteria;
Employees were exposed to the hazard of being burned with hot oil.  On
September 15,
1995, an employee received burns from hot oil while removing a basket from
an electric
pot counter fryer.  The unit was not secured and the employee was not
adequately trained
according to the manufacturer's recommendations.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method is to:
1.  Secure fryer so that it can not be knocked over or off its support.
2.  Adequately train all employees according to the manufacturer's
operators Manual
before operating any fryer units.
3.  Keep floors clean and free of grease so that no one slips accidentally
and contacts the
hot fryer.
