General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to being struck by a hoist that does not clearly indicate to the operator the direction of the resultant motion: (a) Weld Shop; two ton overhead pendant hoist had a pendant that was cracked and did not have legible markings to indicate to the operator the direction of travel. ABATEMENT NOTE: Reference ANSI B30.16-1973, Section 16-2.1.1.2. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to replace the pendant control.
