Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by robots that were performing operations on the bumper turn table: In the bumper welding area, on/or about December 7, 1994, employee(s) were exposed to the hazard(s) of being struck by operating robots when the employee(s) entered the operating envelope of the robot system. Amoung other methods, feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct this hazard would be to: (1). Follow the Robot manufacturers' recommendations concerning safeguarding of the robot system. (2). Follow ANSI/RIA R15.06-1992, Item (6), recommendations concern safeguarding of robot systems, including but not limited to, presence-sensing devices, barriers,awareness signals, designated procedures and training.
