General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to fall hazards: On the south side of the back building, two employees stood on a wooden platform which was placed on the midrail of the Up-Right SL20 Lift while painting exterior trim, exposed to a fall of approximately 18 feet to the asphalt driveway below. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to utilize a work platform of sufficient height, allowing the employee to maintain a firm footing on the platform floor as stipulated in ANSI A92.6-1990, Section 7.11.1, American National Standard for Self-Propelled Elevating Work Platforms and the manufacturer's instructions.
