Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not furnish
employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized
hazards that were
causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in
that:
(a)In the basement wastewater treatment area, on batch treatment tank
number T39,
there was no high level sensing device located at or above the safe fill
level that
would actuate an alarm/signal to provide sufficient time to shut off the
pump
before the overfill level was reached.  Such a device would reduce the
potential
for overfilling of the tank with resulting employee exposure to air
contaminants
and splash hazard from the waste plating liquids.  High level sensing
instrumentation is recommended by organizations such as the Center for
Chemical
Process Safety.
No certification required.  Violation Abated.on
