P.L. 91-596 Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of
1970: The employer
did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards
that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that
employees were exposed to the hazard(s) of coming in contact with
uncovered hot pipes carrying
steam for the press machine:
A- Press area - Sections of steam pipes that service the press were not
guarded or covered with
heat-insulating material.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct this hazard is
to assure that all pipes carrying steam have a covering of heat-insulating
material or otherwise
properly guarded when exposed to contact and located within seven feet of
the floor or working
platform.
