Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a)3/16/95, At the workplace where employees were exposed to the hazard of serious crushing injuries from the dropping of hydraulic automotive lifts, while employees were working under vehicles on the lifts. Safety locking devices (pins, latches or dogs) were not operational or not provided on some of the lifts in the service area. Feasible and acceptable abatement methods include, but are not limited to: 1.Installation of automatic locking devices on the Globe lifts, and 2.Replacement of Globe lifts with new ones that have automatic locking devices.
