General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to being crushed between an automotive lift and the floor in the event of a mechanical failure: The automotive lifts in service bay numbers 21, 27 and 28 did not have locking devices to prevent the lift from falling in the event of a failure in the hydraulic system. This requirement is found in ANSI B153.1-1990, Section 4.4 American National Standard for the Construction, Care, and Use of Automotive Lifts. The lifts were not maintained as stipulated by ANSI B153.1-1990, Section 7.1.2 American National Standard for the Construction, Care, and Use of Automotive Lifts.
