Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The %% employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of rotating pipe: Employees using the Rigid pipe threader "535", Serial Number 312500, were exposed to rotating pipe that was being threaded by the machine. No method was provided to effectively shut off power to the machine, other than the motor control switch outside the reach of the operator. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard would be to provide a foot switch for this machine as recommended by the manufacturer in their publication TF-535-74-R.
