Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being crushed between the automotive lift and the floor in the event of a failure of the hydraulic system. The lift was not equipped with locking devices: The rotary drive on the single post hoist was not equipped with a locking device to prevent the lift from falling/lowering in the event of a failure of the hydraulic system. The locking devices are required by ANSI B153.1-1990, American National Standard for the Construction, Care and Use of Automotive Lifts. CERTIFICATION REQUIRED FOR THIS ITEM
