Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not furnish
employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized
hazards that were
causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in
that employees were
exposed to explosions:
(a)In the furnace department, furnace operators were exposed to burns from
explosions when operating the Ipsen heat treating furnace number 5.  Air
leaks
into the furnace were occurring while the employees were placing or
removing
racks containing castings.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct
this hazard is to comply with the requirements of the Ipsen Industries
Instructional
Manual for the heat treating equipment.  This would include establishing
daily
and periodic inspections of the equipment and developing a maintenance
schedule.
Certification, and documentation/evidence of abatement is required.
Certification of abatement is required by 29 CFR Part 1903 and is to be
submitted within ten (10)
calendar days after the abatement date.ment
