Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to serious burns from dust explosion, deflagration, or other fire hazards from dust collectors being located inside a building: (a)In the 'wet' side of the plant where the carbon products are manufactured, the Donaldson Company, Torit Division, model DFT-3-18, serial number IG570147- 001, dust collector was located inside the building. (b)In the 'dry' side of the plant where the nitrile rubber-based products are manufactured, the Donaldson Company, Torit Division, model DFT-3-12, serial number IG413928-001, dust collector was located inside the building. Among other methods, one feasible abatement method to correct these hazards is to comply with the National Fire Protection Association document, NFPA 654, Standard for the Prevention of Fire and Dust Explosions from the Manufacturing, Processing, and Handling of Combustible Particulate Solids as it applies to your operations including but not limited to relocating the dust collection systems outside the building and ensure that any connections to the building are protected. Certification, with date and method of abatement required. Certification of abatement is required by 29 CFR Part 1903 and is to be submitted within ten (10) calendar days after the abatement date.ment
