Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: A) In the center of the shop the pedestal grinder showed evidence of side grinding on the wheel. Employees are exposed to serious injury or death in the event of the abrasive wheel exploding while grinding on the side of the wheel. A feasible method to abate this hazard is to instruct employees to not grind on the side of the wheel, to post a sign above and behind the pedestal grinder forbidding side grinding and to explain to employees of the potential for serious harm or death in the event of an exploding wheel.ing
