General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a potential explosion of the pedestal grinder abrasive wheel: A) In the center of the shop adjacent to the portal between the weld and machine shops the pedestal grinder showed evidence of side grinding on the wheel. Employees are exposed to serious injury or death in the event of the abrasive wheel exploding while grinding on the side of the wheel. A feasible method to abate this hazard is to instruct employees to not grind on the side of the wheel, to post a sign on the wall behind the wheel forbidding side grinding and to explain to employees the potential for serious harm or death in the event of an exploding wheel.ing
