General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to traumatic crushing and other injuries: (a)Outside yard; The Dresser 530 payloader was used for material handling. It was left unattended with the engine running.(4-28-95) (b)Entire plant; Payloaders were used for material handling of scrap metal, etc. but there was no formal attempt to provide operators with safety related training. (4-28-95) Among other methods, feasible and acceptable methods to correct this hazard are: 1.Prohibit the practice of allowing engines of unattended payloaders to operate. 2.Establish a safety training program for payloader operators.
