Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a slide/fall hazard while working off a roofing bracket scaffold: (a)Corpus Christi School - Employee(s) were working off a roofing bracket scaffold that had the brackets spaced too far apart, was overloaded and the planks overlapped. This disregard of manufacturing instructions lead to scaffolding collapse as occurred on October 13, 1995. Among others, one feasible and acceptable abatement to correct this hazard is to follow manufacturer instructions and guidelines.s
