furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards
that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that
employees were exposed to falling loads and/or lift parts:
(a)Bayliss Oldsmobile, Incorporated; Shop Area - Employee(s) used hydraulic
Globe Lift Incorporated lifts to elevate automobiles.  Automatic mechanical
safety devices were not provided to hold the lift in the fully extended
elevated
position and nor were jack stands used to support the vehicles, thus
exposing
employees to potential injury from being struck by falling loads and/or
lift
parts.  Inspections were not conducted on a regular basis to ensure that
all
components were in safe operating condition.
Among other methods, feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct
this hazard
include:
(1)Repair the automatic safety latches on the automotive lifts.
(2)Provide jack stands to support vehicles when the lift locks are not
operational.
(3)Conduct periodic inspections of the lift to ensure that all components
are in
safe operating condition.
