Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushing: (a)Production Area, Machine Number 7 - Employees lift off the top part of the mold with a one ton Ingersol Rand air hoist, located on the Spanko jib crane, so that the plastic parts can be removed. Employees are working and walking under the suspended load with inadequate protection to prevent the piece from striking employees. The weight of the top part of the mold is approximately 1,000 pounds. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THIS IS TO PROHIBIT THE EMPLOYEES FROM WORKING AND WALKING UNDER THE SUSPENDED LOAD.
