Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to hazards associated with falling off a moving vehicle while riding on the exterior steps of a truck. JOBSITE: On or about 3/6/02 a worker was observed standing on the exterior steps of a moving SNET Utility truck. The truck was moving in the opposite travel lane, against oncoming traffic. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct the hazard is to provide seats and seatbelts for all workers and require them to be properly secured during movement from one site to another.
