Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to unguarded foot pedal: The alleged violations below have been grouped because they involve similar or related hazards that may increase the potential for injury resulting from an accident. a) Employees use a foot-pedal activated Niagara shear to cut wire mesh material. The pedal(s) were not protected so as to prevent unintended operation from falling or moving objects or from an employee accidentally stepping onto the foot control(s), 1/20/93. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to cover the foot pedal with a guard.
