recognized hazards
that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that
employees were exposed to: a crushing hazard from a load that was not
rigged to provide
control of the load:
a)  MCS Industries - The employer was using a 1/2 inch alloy steel chain
sling to set
column's that were about twenty five (25) feet long and weighing fifteen
(15) to
eighteen (18) hundred pounds.  The columns were rigged by choking the
steel chain
sling around the column about 3/4 the way up the column.  If the load
touches
anything on the way down the choker will render the load and the column
will fall on
the connectors below.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct
this hazard
is to use a wire rope sling in a choker hitch.
