Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a)The hazard of being crushed or struck by a structure with a height of greater than 100 feet, while cutting the steel beams that supports the structure. An employee was fatally injured on or about October 14, 2000 when the structure collapsed onto the employee. One feasible and acceptable abatement method, among others to correct this hazard would be to have continued inspections of the structure by a competent person as the work progresses to detect hazards resulting from weakened or deteriorated floors, walls or loosened material and to remove the worker when such hazards exist and to not allow re-entry until the hazards are corrected by shoring, bracing, or other effective means" as referenced in Section of 5.1, American National Standards Institute, ANSI A10.6-1990, Safety Requirements for Demolition.s

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a)The hazard of being crushed or struck by a structure with a height of greater than 100 feet, while demolishing the structure with a Case 9060B excavator with a maximum reach height of 38 feet. Where on or about October 14, 2000 when the structure was to be demolished by pulling the structure down. One feasible and acceptable abatement method, among others to correct this hazard would be to removed sections of the structure until the height of the structure is no more than 5 feet above the reach height of the boom of the crane or backhoe as referenced in Section 14.4, American National Standards Institute, ANSI A10.6-1990, Safety Requirements for Demolition.s
