Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to being struck by motor vehicles that are backing up: FACILITY: Workers were exposed to injury while working in close proximity of vehicles which were not equipped with back up alarms. On or about 7/17/00 an incident occurred in which a worker was struck by a 1987 Ford E350 Van, Connecticut "Farm" Registration 39086, that was backing up after the driver did not observe the worker behind him. Among others, one feasible method of abatement would be to install back up alarms in the vehicles.
