General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that employees were exposed to: a) Department 30 and 31; b) Department 31 (skip loader wire rope lifting cable ends): The employer did not protect employees from the recognized hazard of being struck when working in and around department block presses, in that, the skip loader cable termination ends were not secured by installing wire rope cable clips (saddle clamps), IAW manufacturers recommendations, over the cable/rope dead ends, instead of over the live ends of same. A method of protection for employees would be to follow manufacturers' instructions/recommendations when installing wire rope clips.
