Nevada Revised Statutes 618.375(1) of the Nevada Occupational Safety and Health Act: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a)Sample Preparation Lab; employees working in the sample preparation lab as crushers, splitters and pulverizers were exposed to silica (quartz) in excess of 0.1 milligrams per cubic meter of air (mg/M3) as listed in the 1996 Threshold Limit Values (TLV) published by the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienist (ACGIH). Personal monitoring for respirable dust and respirable silica (quartz) was conducted on 7/25/97 as time weighted average (TWA) samples. Over- exposures to the silica limit were documented for a crusher at 0.115 mg/M3 TWA, a splitter at 0.2 mg/M3 TWA, and a ring pulverizer at 0.18 mg/M3 TWA.
