Title 21 VSA, Chapter 3, subchapter 5, section 223(a): Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: Location: Voyager production room, Mad River Canoe, Waitsfield, VT. Violation: On or about October 6, 8, 10, 1997, employees operating dielectric heaters, were exposed to radiofrequency (RF) radiation in excess of the American Conference of Governmental Hygienists (ACGIH) 1997 Radiofrequency and Microwave Radiation Threshold Limit Values (TLV). A). An employee operating the thermatron .5kW dielectric heater at 40.5 MHz was exposed to 274 volts/meter (V/M) electric field strength, 4.5 times the TLV of 61.4 V/M. B). An employee operating the thermatron .8kW at 28 MHZ was exposed to 101 V/M. 1.5 times the TLV 66 V/M. C). An employee operating the thermatron 6 kW at 29.84 MHz was exposed to 170 V/M. 2.8 times the TLV 61.7 V/M. D). An employee operating the Callanan 1 KW at 33.5 MHz was exposed to 117 V/M. 1.9 times the TLV of 61.4 V/M. E). An employee operating the Callanan 10 KW 13 MHz was exposed to 525 V/M. 3.7 times th TLV of 142 V/M. F). An employee operating the Callanan 4.0 kW at 24.9 MHz was exposed to 110 V/M. 1.5 times the TLV of 74 V/M.
