General-duty citation text

Code of Virginia 40.1-51.1(a):   The employer, Virginia Department of
Conservation and Recreation, Douthat State Park, did not furnish
employment and
a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were
causing
or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that
employees
were exposed to:
A pinch point created by the lowering of the dump truck bed against the
body or
cab of the truck.  The remote control switch located inside the cab of the
truck
(1986 Chevrolet, VIN # 1GBHC34M4GS182443, state license # 29-335S) was
broken
requiring operators to manually operate the outside switch located under
the
right front side of the truck bed.  Operators are having to use a stick to
reach
the manual control therefore, the operators' body is exposed to injury
from the
raising and/or the lowering of the bed of the truck.  1926.601(b)(14)
requires
that the employer maintain the operating controls in a safe working order.
One feasible and acceptable abatement method, among others, to correct this
hazard is to replace the remote control switch located inside the truck
cab.
