Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were
free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death
or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to:
a) Plantwide: employees are exposed to back injuries due to improper
lifting techniques, a feasible and useful method to correct this
hazard would be the implementation of a manual lifting training
program.
A feasible and useful method to correct the hazard, among other methods,
is the periodic comprehensive training and supervision of all exposed
employees in body mechanics, manual lifting and team lifting techniques
and in the utilization of lifting and movement assistance devices.
*Step 1:  Implement a training program in body mechanics and lifting
techniques for all employees exposed to the hazard as an interim
protective measure.
