Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were
free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death
or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to
hazard of being struck by falling members from a collapse of improperly
braced wood roof trusses:
a) On or about January 29, 1990 at the construction site on South
Lake Forest Drive, 6 Wood Roof Truss systems on 6 carports were
improperly braced and subject to collapse, in that, wood members
smaller than 2 inches by 4 inches were used for braces.
One feasible and acceptable abatement method, among others, to correct
this hazard is to install wood roof trusses in accordance with the Truss
Plate Institute's Bracing Wood Trusses-BWT-76.
