Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) Surgi-center, operating room #4; the variable wattage, Co2 surgical laser: Nurses and anesthetists are exposed to burns of the eyes and skin due to inadvertent activation of the laser electrical control system. A feasible and useful method to control the hazard is to lock-out the electrical control panel and remove the key when the laser is not in use.
