Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were
free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death
or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to
potential fire and explosion hazards:
a) Workhouse, (2) elevator legs were not provided with an automatic
mechanical or electromechanical device to shut off all driving
power and sound an alarm in the event of belt slowdown or a
separation of the leg belt.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct this hazard is the use of motion switches which will monitor
the drive and tail pulleys for variations in the speed ration and which
will sound an alarm at 15% reduction in belt speed and finally will shut
down the elevator leg and all contributing conveyors at 40% reduction of
full load speed.

maximum 1-1/2" openings and magnetic separators at grain receiving areas
prior to entry of grain into elevator legs.
