Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of severe burns from molten metal eruption/explosion due to improperly cleaned crucible: a) Building Number 11, Induction Furnace Area - Melting furnace used for the melting of aluminum and copper into and alloy had a two (2) to three (3) inch dross build-up, on or about May 17 and May 18, 1989. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to institute a written procedure, train employees and inspection to ensure proper clean-out after every heat.
