death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were
exposed to overhead hazard such as lifting/suspending loads over
employees:
The alleged violations below have been  grouped  because  they  involve
similar or related hazards that may increase the potential  for  injury
resulting from an accident.
a)  Merck-Sharpe-Dohme, Bldg 78, WP78 T-1 -  An american
125 ton truck crane was observed lowering multiple suspended
loads of steel floor beams.  The beams weighed approximately
1000-1500 pounds each which were independently rigged from
the auxillary hoist drum at the same time.  Employees were
exposed to this overhead hazard, 5/2/91.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method
to correct this hazard is to lift each load independently.
