Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which
were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause
death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were
exposed to:
a.  Ambulance and Work Areas - Health care workers (EMT's and
EMTI's) were exposed to the hazard of being infected by hepatitis
B virus through possible direct contact with blood or other body
fluids.
ABATEMENT NOTE:  Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable
abatement method to correct this hazard is identify all employees
at substantial risk of directly contacting body fluids, counsel, and
offer hepatitis B vaccinations at no cost to the employees in amounts
and at time prescribed by standard medical practice.
(This violation was corrected for 3 of the 4 employees originally
found to not have the vaccination, but one had still not received
the vaccine, nor signed a declination statement, as of 9/11/92.)
