Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by log bolts rolling down the log deck: a. Debarking Station - Employees runing the debarker were not protected from errant logs rolling down the log deck. ABATEMENT NOTE: Among other methods, feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct this hazard are to: 1. Install log stops to protect the debarker operator. 2. Set logs on the deck in a single layer only. 3. Enclose the operator in a booth.
