Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were
free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death
or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to
electrical shock and/or burns from induced voltage passing from the
drying oven circuit operation to employees placing metal bands on the
plastic revolving conveyor belt moving into and passing through the
drying oven:
a) Employees in the Voltex Spraying Area placing metal bands on the
plastic conveyor belt leading into and passing through the drying
oven, adjacent to the Voltex Spraying Booth were not protected from
accidental electrical shock and/or burns, April 11, 1985.
Feasible and useful abatement methods could include but may not be
limited to:
a) Grounding and/or inter-unit bonding for the circuit operation to a
safe potential between all parts, equipment and materials.
b) Rubber insulating mate on floor completely around working are of
the drying oven and spray booth.
c) Keep floor area around operators work station dry and free from
moisture.
d) Redesign operating procedure and oven.
