Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were potentially exposed to Hydrogen Cyanide gas from inadvertant admixture of acids and cyanides: A) Plating Dept: The following powdered dry cyanides were stored in open containers on the concrete floor, subject to intermixing with Sulfuric Acid and potentially exposing employees to Hydrogen Cyanide gas in the event of tank leakage or rupture. 1) One 55 gal. drum, Americhem Zinc Cyanide: 2) One 55 gal. drum, Dupont Cyanogram Sodium Cyanide: 3) One 100 lb. container of Uhpon Copper Cyanide.
