Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to:
(a)M/V Baranof:  In the Boiler Room is duplex receptacle with reversed
polarity when
tested with Woodhead electrical tester.  This condition exposed employees
to possible
electrical shock/burn.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct this
hazard would be to remove and properly rewire the receptacle.
(b)M/V Baranof:  In the Galley are receptacles located less than three
feet from the sink
that was not GFCI protected.  This condition exposed employees to possible
electrical
shock/burn or electrocution when an event of an accidental contact.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this
hazard would
be to install GFCI receptacles or GFCI breakers.
(c)M/V Baranof:  In the Crew's Head are two receptacles located less than
three feet from
the sink that was not GFCI protected.  This condition exposed employees to
possible
electrical shock/burn or electrocution.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this
hazard would
be to install GFCI receptacles or GFCI breakers.
(d)M/V Baranof:  In the Boiler Room is duplex receptacle with frayed
flexible cables and
cable cord and plug connector.  This condition exposed employees to
possible electrical
shock/burn or electrocution when an event of an accidental contact.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this
hazard would
be to replaced the cords and the plug and cord connections.
(e)M/V Baranof:  In the Engine Room is LP #5, 208V power panel with
material stored in
front.  This condition exposed employees to possible electrical shock/burn
or
electrocution when an accidental event contact occurs and stored material
prevent
accessing panel and shutting off power..
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this
hazard would
be to remove stored materials.  (This condition was corrected on the spot
by the
employer).
