Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The

employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were
free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or
serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to
potential bursting of PVC piping.
(a)   Welding/fabrication shop - On December 29, 1992 and at times
prior thereto, compressed air was piped in 1 1/2" PVC piping
along the walls in the shop area.  This use of PVC pipe is
prohibited by ANSI B31.8, 1986, Section 842.43.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct
this hazard is:
Replace with steel pipe listed for the use intended.
