Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to structural steel building without temporary bracing; exposing employees to the hazard of a collapse: (a) EGG Engineering Research Office Building Construction Site, 2525 North Fremont Avenue, Idaho Falls, Idaho - On February 4, 1992 and at times prior thereto, temporary external bracing was not provided for non- self supporting steel frame structure. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is: Provide external bracing such as guy wires immediately after placing columns and before placing structural steel members. External bracing shall be provided in accordance with contract documents (project manuals, and bid packages) and the Ninth Edition of the Manual of Steel Construction (American Institute of Steel Construction).
