Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to flying material and rotating blade hazards caused by inoperable electrical safety interlock devices: a) The interlocking safety devices on the hopper and control panel of the Rapid Chopper. Type 2442 RS, No. 85526-1987, were non-functional or bypassed, thereby allowing entry to the machine while it was operating. September 11, 1989. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THIS IS: 1) Repair or replacement of the safety interlock devices to put them in operating order.
