the hazards of exploding automobile tires:
TIRE SERVICE DEPT: ON OR ABOUT JANUARY 30, 1990 AN AUTOMOBILE TIRE
THAT WAS BEING MOUNTED, USING A COATS 40-40 SA TIRE CHANGING MACHINE,
EXPLODED.
AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO
CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS:
1) USE RUBBER LUBRICANT (NOT PLAIN WATER) TO LUBRICATE THE TIRE BEAD
BEFORE MOUNTING.
2) DEVELOP AN EFFECTIVE PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE PROGRAM TO ENSURE THAT
TIRE CHANGING MACNINES, IN PARTICULAR AIR PRESSURE GAUGES, ARE
MAINTAINED IN SAFE OPERATING CONDITION.
3) TRAIN EMPLOYEES TO OPERATE TIRE CHANGING MACHINES IN ACCORDANCE WITH
THE MACHINE MANUFACTURERS OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS.
