Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by materials being lifted on overloaded lifting devices: a) 140 inch mill - Hill Acme slab tongs were not load tested after weld repairs were made to tongs. Observed 10/16/89 Abatement Note: A feasible and useful method to correct this hazard among other methods is to load test tongs after repairs are made.

Observed 10/16/89 Abatement Note: A feasible and useful method to correct this hazard among other methods is to maintain written records for all inspections made to lifting devices.
